THE TERRACE GALLERY
APPLE OF MY EYE: A SOLO EXHIBITION BY HANNAH LYTH
Apple of my Eye is the second exhibition to hang in the Terrace Gallery at Mackintosh at the Willow, exhibiting September the 27th to October the 11th.
Hannah Lyth is a Glasgow based Artist who specialises in painting and printmaking. Since graduating in 2016 from Glasgow School of Art in Painting and Printmaking, Hannah Lyth has attended Leith School of Art on their Figure Course concentrating on drawing from life. Her current solo exhibition ‘Apple of My Eye’ revolves around the subjectivity of the female body. Drawing from life and evolving her practice in figurative art, Hannah has created a series of works in anatomical watercolour and pencil based media. With women’s subjectivity at their core, the work depicts a series of symbolic narratives relating to fertility, religious iconography, and well known idioms which reinforce traditional cultural ideas of female identity.
This bewitching body of work hints at classical compositions and historical portrayals but completely subverts them, leaving the viewer subsumed in a world of mystical female sexuality. Instead of scrutinising and idealising women, it encapsulates a new awakening and embracement of lived reality and the beauty of imperfections.
